The Role of Leadership in Creating a Learning Organization

A learning organization is an establishment that facilitates the process of educating the members who want to expand their knowledge capacity and attain significant results. A leader should not only perform the functions of management but also launch, improve, and develop the principles of the learning organization. The role of leadership in creating a learning organization is associated with sufficient resourcefulness, efficient and quality activity, and regulation of the learning process as the leader is responsible for the entire organization.

A successful leader of a learning organization should be actively involved in all processes of the establishment. The components of education include analysis, experimentation, intuition, integration, and many others. The leader is an influential driving force and a reliable source of inspiration for the members of the learning course. This person should encourage people to be engaged in the activities that enrich them with new knowledge. However, Robert N. Lussier and Christopher F. Achua emphasize the challenging role of the head as the person must launch an adaptive and flexible organization and maintain efficient operations at the same time (449). Thus, the administration is a harmonious balance between encouragement and strict discipline or regulation that are applied in order to attain the highest level of efficiency and the appropriate quality of knowledge. Therefore, the role of leadership includes a variety of functions, even if they are quite challenging and controversial.

The role of an efficient leader in the learning organization is associated with the responsibility for all the issues concerning the educational establishment. The chief has to apply innovations in technologies and methods with the purpose of the acceleration of the learning process. Moreover, the head must be resourceful in order to provide some incentives for studying. The use of rewards and motivation is a strong weapon of a leader in encouraging innovations and learning (Lussier, Robert N., and Christopher F. Achua 450). A proficient head is an excellent psychologist that can arrange a favorable atmosphere and instill confidence in the students regarding their capacity to study. It is also the function of the leader to stimulate the followers to face new challenges and solve problems that are more complicated thus granting them the feeling of pride. These actions can accelerate the extension of the member’s possibilities as well as the ability for creative thinking. The role of a leader is to enhance the learning course by encouraging students to think outside the box and view things in a nontraditional way. In other words, the character of the administration influences the promotion of the alternative conception generation. As Robert N. Lussier and Christopher F. Achua conclude, creativity is affected by the leadership style, structure, culture, and system (450). Although a good leader should pay much attention to achievements and success, he/she must also allow the students to make mistakes, thus creating an appropriate educational environment. The learning climate should be prepared for the risk and tolerance in case of a failure. It is a challenging goal for leadership, and the purpose is to find the balance between punishment and possibility to accept the mistake. Thus, the role of a leader is to establish a specific efficient tactic that can be visible and noticeable only through the achievements of the learning organization’s members.

Consequently, the role of leadership is a complicated system of actions within the organization. It is related to the issues of responsibility, which forces the head to apply resourceful methods, innovations, and a psychological approach incorporated into the highly organized tactic of the learning organization management. The position of the head demands complete devotedness to the job, relevant professional skills, and readiness for the possible challenges.
